New Giant Battery can Hold the Equivalent of 10 Million AA Batteries
United Kingdom (TGW) - Eon UK is developing a giant battery to store electricity generated from renewable energy sources, such as wind and solar power.
The prototype will be able to hold 1 Megawatt of electricity for four hours - the equivalent of 10 million AA batteries.
Bob Taylor, Managing Director of Energy Wholesale and Technology, said: "Green power is only generated from wind farms when the wind blows and that might not be when the power's needed by customers.
"The storage system will also help the development of localized generation - for example, a school with solar panels can store the power generated at weekends and use it when the kids are back in school."
The company plans to invest $55.5 million in the project.Via :: Eon press release

I admire the inspiration for newer innovations. IF vehicles were operated by lithium ion batteries then the world would literally be a different place. ME myself mainly caring for the environment itself would really hope for the best case scenario and would wish that vehicles would run on them batteries!
